Set Point Theory - Part 3: Regular Exercise & Sweat

Updated: Jun 29, 2024

In last two blogs we discussed the set point theory as a central concept for understanding weight regulation and obesity by Dr. Andrew Jenkinson. Besides the previously mentioned factors, physical activity play very important roles in keeping the desired or losing weight.

Regular exercise, including both aerobic and strength training, helps maintain a healthy metabolism and energy balance, supporting weight regulation. Regular exercise is defined by:

  • Minimum Daily Exercise: 20-30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per day

  • Optimal Daily Exercise: 40-60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per day

Sweating during exercises is essential for weight management, metabolic health, and overall well-being. Sweat can be achieved, for instance, by a combination of cardiovascular exercises, strength training, and other activities that elevate the heart rate.

As for many things in life, the key is to find physical activities that you enjoy and can sustain consistently over time, as this will help you maintain a healthy lifestyle and reap the full benefits of regular exercise.
